For preteens and their parents...
RADIO VISION
"Radio Vision", WADN, Concord, MA. How do preteens get a chance to meet community role models and talk to them right on the air from their classrooms at school? "Radio Vision" pioneered this exciting concept by inviting "mystery guests" from many walks of life to share their stories with two participating on-air classrooms. The show took the format of a 20-question game show, with kids trying to guess what the particular strength of the "mystery guest" was. Guests included:
- Beth Winship, nationally syndicated teen affairs columnist
- Dick Wheeler, a educator/kayaker who paddled from Newfoundland to Cape Cod to raise awareness of endangered sea life
- A Boston Marathon wheelchair finalist
- A worker for City Year, an urban renewal program for high school grads
The show was funded by the three participating school systems: Lexington, Maynard, and Concord, MA and was long remembered as a way to bridge schools with the community at large, using a long-standing medium, radio, in an exciting new way.
